Nucor Selects Indiana for Utility Towers Plant

"With this second utility structure production facility, we are expanding our towers and structures business and positioning the company to meet the growing demand for utility infrastructure from renewable energy projects, electric vehicle charging network expansion and grid hardening," said Nucor chairman and chief executive officer Leon Topalian.

Nucor formed its towers and structures business in 2022 after acquiring Pennsylvania-based Summit Utility Structures, a manufacturer of metal utility poles and steel structures. At the time, Nucor said it would take the business national and build two new production facilities.

The first of those facilities is being built in Decatur, Ala., and each will be highly automated and use efficient straight-line production, Nucor has said. They also will include advanced hot-dip galvanizing operations.

"Nucor has been doing business in Indiana since 1972, and today we have more than 2,500 teammates working at multiple locations across the state. We are excited to build on that history with our new towers and structures production facility," said Laurent De Mey, Nucor Towers & Structures general manager.
