Nucor Reveals Plans for North America's Widest Galvanizing Line
05/26/2017 - Nucor Corp. said it will invest US$176 million in a new galvanizing and pickling line at its Ghent, Ky., USA, sheet mill, adding 500,000 tons of capacity.
In an announcement Thursday, Nucor said that at 72 inches, the line will be the widest hot-rolled galvanizing line in North America and will increase the company's market share of coated steel in the Midwest.
"The addition of a hot band galvanizing line at Nucor Steel Gallatin supports our automotive growth strategy. This project will allow us to move into segments of the automotive market we currently do not serve," Nucor chairman and chief executive John Ferriola said in a statement.
"We have been growing our share of the automotive market and this project will help us continue that trend. In addition, this line will fully satisfy a key need in the marketplace for high-quality, hot-rolled galvanized steel."
Nucor said it expects that it will take two years to build the new line. It expects to add 75 positions.
