Nucor Reports Record Quarter, Expects Another
10/21/2021 - Nucor Corp. has reported record earnings in each consecutive quarter in 2021, and the company announced today it expects the same for the fourth quarter and possibly into 2022, citing strong demand and higher average selling prices.
The company saw quarterly consolidated net earnings of US$2.13 billion for the third quarter of 2021, compared to US$1.51 billion in the second quarter 2021 and US$193.4 million in the third quarter of 2020.
“During the third quarter, we once again achieved record results, with earnings per share of US$7.28. Our third quarter performance surpassed our previous record of US$5.04 set in the second quarter of this year and almost matched our full year earnings record of US$7.42 that we set back in 2018,” said Leon Topalian, Nucor's president and chief executive. “I am incredibly proud of our team and what we have accomplished.”
The company’s steel mills segment and steel products segment both set highest quarterly earnings records in the third quarter as well.
Nucor reported it shipped a total of 7,172,000 tons to outside customers in the third quarter of 2021, a 4% decrease from the second quarter of 2021 and a 13% increase from the third quarter last year.
The company said it expects to see continued strong results in the fourth quarter, possibly beating the record set in the third quarter.
“Demand remains robust across most end-use markets, a trend we expect will continue well into 2022. Backlogs in our steel mills and steel products segments remain elevated compared to historical levels,” the company said in a press release.
