Nucor Receives Air Permit for Proposed Sheet Mill
05/18/2022 - The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection has signed off on an air quality permit for Nucor Corp.’s planned flat-rolled mill in the state, reports the Charleston (W.Va.) Gazette-Mail.
According to the newspaper, the department issued the permit after concluding that the facility “will not cause or contribute” to violations of National Ambient Air Quality Standards.
Nucor, which revealed plans for the mill last fall, is building the facility on a 691-acre site along the Ohio River in southwestern West Virginia. The 3-million-ton electric arc furnace (EAF) facility will include a tandem cold mill, annealing capabilities and at least two galvanizing lines.
In a separate permit application with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Nucor indicated that the mill will also have two EAFs and a barge unloading facility for direct reduced iron.
