Nucor Plans Upgrades to Alabama Sheet Mill
04/05/2016 - Nucor Corp. is spending approximately US$4.4 million to upgrade the pickling line at its Decatur, Ala., sheet mill, according to reports.
In a statement to AIST Steel News, Nucor said the improvement will allow the mill’s steel to be sold into additional markets, including automotive.
“This project will allow Nucor Steel Decatur to continue to move up the value chain, which is part of Nucor’s long-term strategy for profitable growth,” the company said.
Work will be done when the equipment is down for routine maintenance and will not disrupt production or deliveries, the company said.
“This is a relatively small investment for us, but it’s an important one,” Nucor Steel Decatur division controller Chad Potter told The Decatur Daily newspaper.
