Nucor Names General Manager for New Ironmaking Facility

Nucor Corp. has named John C. Farris Vice President and General Manager of the company’s new ironmaking facility.

This new state-of-the-art ironmaking facility will employ advanced heat-recovery coke technology that will capture waste energy, making the operation self-sufficient in power. The coke-making facility will meet and likely outperform current best-available control technology requirements.

“Based on John's strong management experience, he will provide effective leadership for Nucor's first blast furnace and coke-oven operation," said Dan DiMicco, Chairman, President and CEO of Nucor. “John's first task will be to build the management team for this project. We are confident John will build a capable, experienced management team to lead this new project.”

Farris, 43, joined Nucor in 1992. He has been General Manager of Nucor's bar mill in Marion, Ohio since 2005, and has served as a Nucor Vice President since 2006. He previously worked as a manager at Nucor's bar mill in Jewett, Texas.

In May, Nucor announced its application for a permit to build the facility in St. James Parish, La. The project's site is still uncertain, as permits have to be issued and Nucor's board of directors must approve the site and the capital investment. The company also said that sites outside of the United States are still under consideration.
