In a statement, Danieli said Nucor will install both a spooler line and a billet welder, allowing it to wind up No. 3 to No. 8 rebar in spools of up to 5.5 tons. The spooling line will be Nucor’s third such line and will process 250,000 tons annually. 

Danieli said the project also includes an extension of the reheat furnace, allowing billet discharging at a higher temperature and in-line with the mill. 

“The combination of billet welding and spooling technologies maximize the yield (up to 99%) because of the endless production process. Twist-free spooled coils add value to final products because they do not require uncoiling and recoiling operations before downstream processing,” Danieli said. 

Commissioning is scheduled for the fourth quarter of this year.
