Nucor Foundation Reaches New Milestone in Support of Education
01/20/2010 - Nucor’s Nucor Foundation celebrates a new milestone support of education by awarding $4.4 million in scholarships to nearly 2000 students.
Nucor Corp.’s Nucor Foundation has awarded over $52 million in scholarships to 10,500 students at more than 1,300 colleges since its inception in 1974. Of that total, $31 million has been awarded in the last ten years. In 2009 alone, the Nucor Foundation awarded $4.4 million in scholarships to nearly 2000 students, breaking previous records for its support of education.
"We are very proud of the financial support we have provided to students over the last 36 years," said Dan DiMicco, Nucor Chairman, President and CEO.
Supporting education is a central focus of the Nucor Foundation. Nucor believes that further economic and social progress in our country is built upon the education of our citizens. The awarding of scholarships is a way to encourage personal, as well as national and community, development.
The Nucor Foundation has several different scholarship programs that benefit Nucor employees’ children as well as students pursuing degrees in engineering and metallurgy from communities where the company operates.
"We look forward to continuing to support our nation's students, particularly during these difficult economic times,” concluded DiMicco. “A well-educated workforce is a vital component of our economic recovery."
