Nucor Celebrates Start of Work on Third Micro-Mill
08/28/2023 - Nucor Corp. broke ground Friday on its planned rebar micro-mill in Lexington, N.C., USA, marking the start of work on what will be its third such facility.
“We can’t wait to watch what this mill does in transforming and helping to continue the legacy of Lexington,” said Nucor chair and chief executive officer Leon Topalian, the Winston-Salem Journal newspaper reported.
A US$350 million investment, the mill will be equipped to produce 430,000 tons annually.
"I love to see great-paying jobs come to North Carolina, and when you look at an area that been hurt by the loss of textile manufacturing, to be able to bring these great-paying jobs here with advanced manufacturing, that’s a great accomplishment," North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper said, according to WXLV-TV.
