Nucor Builds On Relationship With Software Developer

This is the third time Nucor has extended its relationship with Trimble Navigation Ltd.’s Tekla Structures, it said. The two have worked together since 2009.

"Our collaboration with Trimble is the direct result of Nucor's strong commitment to advancing technology, skills and productivity in the construction industry through our continued investment in Tekla Structures," Ray Napolitan, Nucor’s executive vice president of fabricated construction products, said in a statement.

"For years, we've seen the value that (building information modeling), and specifically Tekla Structures, bring to Nucor Corp. and our customers, extending our competitive advantage through higher quality and increased project efficiency."

Nucor said it will continue to build on its investment in Tekla Structures’ building information modeling software, incorporating it into several business divisions, including Nucor Buildings Group, Harris Rebar and Nucor Grating. Also, Nucor said its
Vulcraft/Verco Group intends to incorporate it across its entire in-house steel detailing process.

Additionally, Nucor said it and Trimble will work together on initiatives designed to teach those in the architecture, engineering and construction market about effective project workflows. They’ll also collaborate on education programs designed to prepare students for a construction industry that is increasingly reliant on building information modeling software.

“The companies will expand joint training and workshops for the industry and students with an emphasis on supporting appropriate curricula at educational and training institutions located near Nucor's dozens of fabrication facilities,” Nucor said in a statement.
