Nucor Bar Mill Puts New Reheat Furnace on Order
05/19/2017 - Nucor Corp. has ordered a reheat furnace from SMS group as part of a US$85 million upgrade to its Ohio bar mill.
According to SMS group, the new walking beam furnace will have a capacity of 120 tons per hour. The order includes billet handling equipment, electrical and automation packages and a dedicated water treatment plant.
SMS said the furnace will allow for more uniform heating of billets, which, in turn, will lead to improved bar quality.
“The new furnace will be split into several combustion zones, controlled independently and responding to the sophisticated and renowned SMSPrometheus software for heating optimization and digitally controlled, extra-low NOx burners,” SMS said in a statement.
Nucor revealed its plans to modernize the Marion, Ohio, USA, facility’s rolling mill in March. The facility annually turns out more than 400,000 tons of rebar and signpost.
