Nucor Awards Contract for Rod Mill Upgrades
12/17/2015 - Primetals Technologies has won a contract to upgrade coil handling equipment at Nucor Corp.'s Norfolk, Neb.,USA, coiled bar and wire rod mill, the company has announced.
Under the contract, Primetals will supply a continuously rotating shear, coil receiving equipment with a coil plate, pallet system conveyor, and transfer and cooling equipment.
The contract also includes an automation package for the new equipment and automation updates for Nucor’s existing pallet system and compactor. Primetals will oversee installation and commissioning. The mill annually produces 900,000 tons of long products for a variety of markets, including agriculture, heavy equipment, industrial machinery, construction, oil and gas, rail and automotive.
The new equipment will improve the cooling process to produce higher quality steel rods for expanded Nucor customer markets, Primetals said. The new equipment is to come on-line in September 2016.
