Nucor, U. S. Steel Pick Up Orders for Green Steel
11/15/2022 - HVAC specialist Trane Technologies will purchase low-CO2 steels from Nucor Corp. and United States Steel Corporation, switching over approximately 20% of its annual steel purchase to the less CO2-intensive products.
“Sustainability is at the core of our strategy, and we're excited to take another step forward in our journey to net-zero HVAC solutions,” said Dave Regnery, chair and chief executive of Trane Technologies. "Our partnerships with Nucor Corp. and U. S. Steel will make our products even more sustainable as we continue to decarbonize our full value chain — from the raw materials we use, to our own operations, to the life cycle impact of our products and services around the world.”
Nucor and U. S. Steel each have branded low-CO2 steel – Nucor’s Econiq and U. S. Steel’s verdeX.
Trane will use the steel in making high-efficiency heat pumps and air conditioners for homes, and thermal management systems for commercial buildings such as schools and data centers.
