Northwest Pipe to Supply Pipe for New Los Angeles Trunk Line
02/06/2009 - Northwest Pipe will supply 10,500 feet of welded steel pipe and custom-engineered fittings for the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power’s City Trunk Line South Unit 2 project.
Northwest Pipe Co. has been awarded the contract for the City Trunk Line South (CTLS) Unit 2 project, owned by Los Angeles Department of Water & Power.
The project is part of the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power's (LADWP) aggressive Capital Improvement Program to replace the city's aging water infrastructure system. The Trunk Line, which has a history of leaks and breaks, will be required to adequately withstand higher pressures in the future. The new Trunk Line will provide a more reliable supply of water to the area and will allow greater operational flexibility of the water distribution system in the City of Los Angeles.
Northwest will furnish the project with approximately 10,500 feet of 66-, 60-, 54- and 24-inch diameter welded steel pipe and custom-engineered fittings by W.A. Rasic of Bell Gardens, Calif. The pipe order is valued at approximately $9 million.
The company expects to manufacture the pipe at its Adelanto, Calif., facility, with delivery to start early in the third quarter of 2009 and completed by 2011.
Northwest Pipe manufactures welded steel pipe and other products in two business segments. Its Water Transmission Group is a leading supplier of large diameter, high-pressure steel pipe products that are used primarily for water infrastructure in North America. Its Tubular Products Group manufactures smaller diameter steel pipe for a wide range of construction, agricultural, energy, industrial and mechanical applications. Headquartered in Vancouver, Wash., the company has ten manufacturing facilities across the United States and Mexico.
