NLMK to Supply Pre-Painted Steel for Samsung's White Goods Production in Russia
05/27/2014 - NLMK Group has commenced supplies of pre-painted steel for production of white goods by Korean conglomerate Samsung at its facility in Kaluga region of Russia.
NLMK is entering the niche segment of the Russian pre-painted steel market with a new premium product that formerly was supplied exclusively by foreign manufacturers. This product was developed specifically for Samsung’s white goods production. NLMK steel high cold stamping features a smooth polyether finish and a polyurethane coating on the underside with a high resistance to corrosion for use in demanding environments.
Tests, performed jointly with Samsung, have confirmed that NLMK’s steel is fully compliant with requirements, both in terms of features such as color and appearance; mechanical and other qualities; and in terms of its environmental safety.
Ilya Guschin, NLMK vice president for sales, said: “We have over twenty years of experience in developing technologies for the production of galvanized steel with a wide range of premium quality coatings. This allows us to produce exclusive customized versions of this product. NLMK Group is Russia’s leading manufacturer of pre-painted steel with a 40% market share. It produces color-coated steel up to 1850 mm wide with a zinc coating of no less than Z140, and smooth or texturized polyether, smooth or texturized polyurethane, and smooth PVDF coating in a wide range of colors. NLMK Group’s total coated steel production capacity is 680,000 metric tonsper year. These capacities are located in Novolipetsk (560,000 tpa) and at NLMK Strasbourg (120,000 tpa). Coated galvanized steel manufactured by NLMK is used in construction to produce profiled sheeting, metal tiles, sandwich panels, façade sidings, and the production of bodies for household appliances, as well as instrument making and a range of other uses.
