NLMK Sees Emissions Reduction Through Equipment Upgrade
05/26/2020 - NLMK Group’s flagship facility in Lipetsk, Russia, has concluded performance testing on new emissions control equipment and found that it is meeting design targets, the company has said.
“Leadership in sustainable development is one of the company’s key strategic goals. From 2019 to 2023, NLMK Group’s investment in environmental protection will exceed RUB20 billion. The integration of gas purification equipment in line with best-available technologies at NLMK’s blast furnace and basic oxygen furnace operations will enable them to almost eliminate dust emissions,” said Nikita Vorobyev, NLMK Group’s environment director.
The company said the new equipment includes a highly efficient system for the capture and purification of fugitive emissions at the No. 2 basic oxygen furnace shop and new air purification systems at the No. 6 blast furnace. The systems were installed at
feedstock supply and slag processing areas and at the casthouse.
Two more projects with significant environmental benefits are scheduled for this year – an overhaul of the No. 6 blast furnace and the No. 3 basic oxygen furnace.
