NLMK Restarts Blast Furnace No. 4

NLMK (Novolipetsk Steel) has restarted its Blast Furnace No. 4 following a complete overhaul. The company had idled 1.7 million tonnes per year blast furnace in November 2008.
 
The company invested RUR 180 million for the five-month overhaul of the 2000-m3 unit. The project included replacement of refractory and partial change of the furnace shell as well as casthouse repairs and renovation of the charging equipment and air heaters.
 
NLMK had recommissioned its 1.6 million tonnes per year Blast Furnace No. 3 in February, along with its 770,000 tonnes per year Blast Furnace No. 2.
 
With the restart of Blast Furnace No. 4, NLMK’s main production site is now running all five blast furnaces. Steel production in Lipetsk in 2009 is expected to reach 8.3 million tonnes.
