NLMK Looks to Complete New Caster by Year's End
07/18/2019 - NLMK has begun installation of a new caster at its Lipetsk mill in Russia, marking the beginning of the end of a broader project to boost the mill’s output.
An investment of RUB12 billion (US$190.4 million), the new caster will replace the existing No. 9 unit. The old caster has already been dismantled, and completion of the new unit is scheduled to occur in December.
NLMK said the new caster will be capable of producing 1.8 million metric tons' worth of slabs annually.
“CCM No. 9 will also enable NLMK Lipetsk to begin production of unique 'heavy' slabs of up to 400 mm in thickness and 2,800 mm in width, which feature high chemical purity and structural homogeneity,” the company said.
The installation will round out an investment program designed to lift the plant’s output by 1 million metric tons.
