NLMK/Lipetsk University Educational Project Wins State Support in National Contest
09/06/2013 - A joint project from NLMK Group's Novolipetsk and its affiliated university, the Lipetsk State Technical University, has won an open contest organized by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science for a state grant to implement projects aimed at training highly-qualified personnel for companies of the Lipetsk region.
The winning project, Staff Training for Production Companies of the Lipetsk Region, will now be implemented by Lipetsk University together with Novolipetsk with the financial support from the federal budget, which will amount to approx. RUB 50 million for the 2013-2014 academic year.
The funds will be used to develop the University’s educational and scientific infrastructure, to pay salaries to Novolipetsk employees involved in the project, and to provide advanced training for the academic staff.
“Training of highly-qualified staff is among NLMK Group’s top priorities. The many years of effective cooperation with the Lipetsk Technical University is one of the key elements in this consistent effort. Its victory in the federal contest will give additional impetus to creating a strong professional skill pool in Lipetsk, which is a prerequisite for the success of NLMK and the regional industry on the whole,” said Stanislav Tsyrlin, NLMK’s vice president for HR & management system.
The competition brought together colleges and universities that focus on training staff in the priority areas of economic development in their respective regions. The relevance and quality of the participating projects aimed at training qualified staff for companies and organizations, and the potential of the participants themselves, were assessed.
Lipetsk State Technical University is affiliated with Novolipetsk. Novolipetsk and Lipetsk University collaborate to prepare specialists in areas that are key for the steelmaking company. In 2013, the company recruited 77 graduates of the University; 57 of them participated in NLMK’s programs while studying at the University: Vladimir Lisin’s Scholarship, and Additional Professional Training for Lipetsk University Students.
