NLMK Lands Multi-Year Raw Material Supply Agreement
05/22/2017 - Integrated Russian steelmaker NLMK has signed a long-term agreement to supply raw materials to one of the world’s largest cement manufacturers.
In a statement, NLMK said it will sell up to 5 million metric tons of material annually to EUROCEMENT through the end of 2022. Materials include iron-containing additives and granulated slag, chalk and clay, and limestone screenings.
“NLMK Group has been working with EUROCEMENT group for several years on short-term contracts. This new long-term agreement has taken our partnership to a new level. It will make our relationship more open and structured, simplify clearing and settlement, and reduce the risk of changes in the market impacting the supply of materials,” Ilya Guschin, NLMK Group’s vice president for sales, said in a statement.
Aside from mined raw materials, researchers at NLMK Group and EUROCEMENT have been exploring uses for fine slag, including as a limestone substitute in the production of clinker, an intermediate product in cement production, NLMK said.
