NLMK Develops Electrical Steel for Wind Farms
08/13/2020 - Russian steelmaker NLMK has developed a non-oriented electrical steel for use in wind-power generating equipment, the company reports.
The first batch, produced at NLMK Lipetsk, the company’s flagship site, was shipped to NovaWind for a wind farm project in southern Russia.
NovaWind, the wind power division of Rosatom, plans to build wind farms with a total capacity of 1 GW by 2023. To achieve this goal, the company needed domestically manufactured electrical steel with improved properties to be used in the production of electric generator engines.
“NLMK possesses all the competencies required to develop and manufacture innovative grades of electrical steel,” said Ilya Guschin, NLMK Group vice president for sales. “We are excited to be part of an ambitious green energy project.”
