Nippon Yakin Kogyo Produces First Coil on New HZ-Mill
03/20/2025 - Japanese stainless steel producer Nippon Yakin Kogyo has successfully produced the first coil on its new HZ-Mill at the Kawasaki plant, engineered and supplied by Primetals Technologies.
Primetals Technologies said the HZ-Mill is their advanced split-housing 20-high mill featuring a large gap opening for easy strip threading and a double AS-U shape control system for stable rolling and improved productivity. It is the first ever HZ-Mill to be used for stainless steel production and has replaced two monoblock cold rolling mills.
The supplier also installed a larger fume exhaust system to enhance air quality and working conditions. The new mill enables the company to produce thinner stainless steel grades, down to 0.2 mm thick and up to 1,350 mm wide, at speeds of up to 1,000 m/minute.
