Nippon Steel to Reline Yawata Works No. 4 Blast Furnace

Nippon Steel announced plans to reline the No. 4 blast furnace of the company’s Yawata Works.
 
The company said that as part of the reline, it will endeavor to optimize the specifications of the equipment in support of its goal to pursue investment efficiency and cost minimization. The company noted that the reline will help it to solidify its competitive strength in the manufacture of iron and steel in the global market.
 
The reline, which is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter, will expand the furnace’s volume from its present 4250 m3 to 5000 m3. Nippon Steel Engineering Co., Ltd. will be the main constructor for the reline, which is scheduled to be completed in 85 days. Blast Furnace No. 4 started operation in February 1998.
