Nippon Steel Names New President

Nippon Steel Corp. announced that Vice President Shoji Muneoka, 61, will become President of the corporation on April 1.

Incumbent President Akio Mimura, 67, is set to become Chairman. The Chairman’s post has been vacant since the death of Akira Chihaya in January 2007.

Mimura, who took the office of President nearly five years ago, has led Nippon Steel's efforts to focus on high-grade steel products. The company expects to report a record profit for the fourth straight year in the year ending next March.

Muneoka joined the company in 1970 when Yawata Iron & Steel Co. and Fuji Iron and Steel Co. merged into Nippon Steel.
