Nippon Steel Galvanizing (Thailand) Holds Groundbreaking Ceremony

Nippon Steel Galvanizing (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (NSGT) held a groundbreaking ceremony on February 27. The company was established in June last year by Nippon Steel Corp. for the manufacture and sale of hot-dip galvanized and galvannealed steel sheets.

The ceremony took place at the construction site in the Hemaraj Eastern industrial estate, Rayong Province, Thailand. The investment is approximately US$300 million.

NSGT, given an environmental permit in December last year, has been moving forward with the project as originally scheduled. NSGT plans to build facilities at this site adjacent to Siam United Steel, a consolidated subsidiary of Nippon Steel, thus structuring an integrated control setup downstream of cold rolling. The scheduled start of commercial operations is anticipated in October 2013.

Major facilities include one continuous galvanizing line. Productive capacity will be 360,000 tonnes per year.

For automotive steel sheets manufacture overseas, Nippon Steel operates eight bases in six countries. For hot-dip galvanized steel sheets manufacture, the company has five bases in five countries (including those now being planned).
