Nippon Steel’s Ecokote-STM Adopted in Fuel Tanks for Chevrolet Volt
12/06/2010 - Nippon Steel Corp. has accepted orders for its specially developed Ecokote-STM for fuel tanks to be manufactured by Spectra Premium Industries Inc., from Canada, for the Chevrolet Volt electric vehicle with extended range.
Nippon Steel Corp. has accepted orders for its specially developed Ecokote-STM for fuel tanks to be manufactured by Spectra Premium Industries Inc., from Canada, for the Chevrolet Volt electric vehicle with extended range.
Ecokote-STM is a tin-zinc-coated steel sheet for automotive fuel tanks that contains no lead or other environment-loading substances and exhibits high corrosion resistance.
Through a technical exchange with Spectra, Nippon Steel has been working to achieve corrosion resistance, formability, and environmental performance most appropriate for environmentally safe vehicles. As a result, Ecokote-STM became an officially approved material for Volt’s fuel tank.
