24 May 2012 - The U.S. imported a total of 2,997,000 net tons of steel in April, down 2% from March final data according to the latest report from AISI. Finished steel imports were up 5% through the same period.
April World Crude Steel Production up 1.2% vs. April 2011
22 May 2012 - World crude steel production for the 62 countries reporting to the World Steel Association stood at 128.38 million tonnes for April 2012, 1.2% higher in comparison with April 2011 and 2.9% lower than the previous month, March 2012.

21 May 2012 - ALJ, the parent company of Kentucky Electric Steel, reported net income of $3.107 million on net sales of $44.384 million for the second quarter, and net income of $4.831 million on net sales of $83.279 million for the six months ended March 31, 2012.

21 May 2012 - Imports of total stainless steel in YTD February 2012 were 127,795 tons, a 0.7% increase compared to YTD February 2011, according to recently released statistical data from the Specialty Steel Industry of North America (SSINA).
Nucor to Acquire Skyline Steel
18 May 2012 - Nucor Corp. has signed a Stock Purchase Agreement to acquire the membership interests of Skyline Steel LLC and its subsidiaries from ArcelorMittal, for approximately $605 million. Skyline Steel will be a wholly owned subsidiary of Nucor Corp. and will maintain its headquarters in Parsippany, N.J.
Schnitzer Provides Outlook for Q3 of Fiscal 2012
18 May 2012 - Schnitzer Steel Industries, Inc. announced its market outlook for its third quarter of fiscal 2012, noting that margins have compressed from the second quarter as a slight increase in average gross ferrous selling prices has been more than offset by higher costs of both raw materials and freight.
Canadian Trade Tribunal Initiates Inquiry into Welded Carbon Steel Pipe
18 May 2012 - The Canadian International Trade Tribunal initiated a preliminary injury inquiry into a complaint by Novamerican Steel Inc. and Bolton Steel Tube Co. Ltd. that they have suffered injury as a result of the dumping of certain carbon steel welded pipe from Chinese Taipei, the Republic of India, the Sultanate of Oman, the Republic of Korea, Thailand, the Republic of Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates, and the subsidizing of these goods from the Republic of India, the Sultanate of Oman, and the United Arab Emirates.

ThyssenKrupp Examines Options for Steel Americas Plants in Brazil, U.S.
16 May 2012 - The Executive Board of ThyssenKrupp AG informed the Supervisory Board of its decision to examine strategic options for the plants of Steel Americas in Brazil and the U.S., in parallel with further technical and commercial optimization, to which the Supervisory Board assented. The options may involve a partnership or a sale to a best owner whose strategy can better utilize the plants.
USITC to Uphold Antidumping Orders on Tin- and Chromium-Coated Steel Sheet from Japan
16 May 2012 - The U.S. International Trade Commission has determined that revoking the existing antidumping duty order on tin- and chromium-coated steel sheet from Japan would be likely to lead to continuation or recurrence of material injury within a reasonably foreseeable time.
Northwest Pipe Reports Q1 2012 Financial Results
15 May 2012 - Northwest Pipe reported that net sales for the quarter ended March 31, 2012, increased 27.6% to $142.2 million compared to $111.5 million in the same quarter in 2011. Gross profit was $16.5 million (11.6% of net sales), an increase from $14.8 million (13.2% of net sales) a year ago.
RG Steel to Restart L-Blast Furnace at Sparrows Point
