March Steel Shipments up 1.3% from February
05/17/2012 - U.S. steel mills shipped 8,512,825 net tons for the month of March 2012, a 1.3% increase from the 8,407,343 net tons shipped in the previous month according to the latest release from AISI.
U.S. steel mills shipped 8,512,825 net tons for the month of March 2012, according to the latest release from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
The March total represents a 1.3% increase from the 8,407,343 net tons shipped in the previous month, February 2012, and a 6.3% increase from the 8,006,015 net tons shipped in March 2011.
Year-to-date shipments for 2012 are 25,418,100 net tons, a 13.0% increase vs. 2011 shipments of 22,502,151 for the comparable year-ago period. 2012 shipments through March would annualize at 102 million tons.
A month-to-month comparison of shipments shows the following changes:
Cold rolled sheet and strip, up 2%
Hot rolled sheet, down 3%
Hot-dip galvanized sheets and strip, down 4%
