AISI Applauds ITC Imports Vote in OCTG Trade Case
20 August 2013 - The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) applauded the affirmative preliminary injury vote by the International Trade Commission, which allows the AD and CD investigations on OCTG from India, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine and Vietnam to move forward.
AIIS Decries ITC Decision in OCTG Trade Case
20 August 2013 - ITC Commissioners voted to continue cases against all nine countries in the cases brought by the domestic OCTG producers; the American Institute for International Steel decried the decision, noting that trade laws' purpose is not to protect profitable, growing industries.
U. S. Steel President Mario Longhi to Become CEO; John Surma Becomes Executive Chairman
19 August 2013 - United States Steel Corporation's Board of Directors elected president and chief operating officer Mario Longhi as a director, and announced that he will succeed Chairman John P. Surma as chief executive officer effective 1 September 2013. Surma will retain the position of executive chairman through 31 December 2013 when he will retire from the company and from the board of directors.

19 August 2013 - A blast furnace has gone down at ArcelorMittal Indiana Harbor, the largest steelmaking complex in North America, according to a report for the Times of Northwest Indiana.

USW Members Ratify Labor Agreement for AK Steel's Ashland Works
19 August 2013 - AK Steel said that members of the United Steelworkers (USW) Local 1865 union have ratified an 18-month labor agreement covering more than 800 hourly production and maintenance steel operations employees at the company's Ashland, Ky., Works.
U.S. Agency Votes to Continue OCTG Trade Case
19 August 2013 - The United States International Trade Commission (USITC) determined that there is a reasonable indication that a U.S. industry is materially injured by reason of imports of certain oil country tubular goods from India, Korea, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, and Vietnam that are allegedly sold in the U.S. at less than fair value and allegedly subsidized by the governments of India and Turkey.

19 August 2013 - United States Steel Corporation chairman and chief executive officer John P. Surma announced that general counsel and senior vice president – corporate affairs James D. Garraux has informed the company of his plan to retire by the end of 2013 after 34 years with the company.

19 August 2013 - United States Steel Corporation chairman and CEO John P. Surma announced that David B. Burritt will succeed Gretchen R. Haggerty as executive vice president and chief financial officer.
Siemens to Construct Long Product Rolling Mill in the UAE
16 August 2013 - Siemens Metals Technologies has received an order from United Steel Industries LLC to construct a 950,000 tons per year long product rolling mill in the United Arab Emirates.
Metinvest Launches New Grade to Lower Steel Construction Costs
16 August 2013 - Metinvest’s integrated mill Azovstal launched production of S460M hot rolled plate according to the Ukrainian state standard DSTU EN 10025-4:2007. This product decreases steel required for building frames by 10–15%, which results in significant savings for developers.
Louisiana Approves Funding for Benteler Steel Project
16 August 2013 - A Louisiana state panel has approved using US$20 million in state Mega Project funding to complete a deal bringing a Benteler Steel manufacturing facility to the Port of Caddo-Bossier, according to a local report from The News Star.
Synalloy's Metal Subsidiaries Awarded US$22.5 Million for Two Fabrication Projects
16 August 2013 - Synalloy Corporation, a company that engages in a number of diverse business activities including the production of stainless steel pipe, fiberglass and steel storage tanks, specialty chemicals and fabrication of stainless and carbon steel piping systems, announced that its Synalloy Fabrication subsidiary secured US$22.5 million in new fabrication bookings in the past two weeks.
Severstal Increases Supplies to the Construction Industry by 17% in First Half of Year
15 August 2013 - The Cherepovets Steel Mill, one of the world’s largest integrated steel mills and part of the Russian Steel division of OAO Severstal, announced that it boosted supplies to building contractors in Russia up to 1,635,000 tonnes in the first half of 2013. This is a 17% increase from the same period in 2012.
ArcelorMittal Liberia On Track to Ship 4.5 Million Tonnes of Iron Ore This Year
15 August 2013 - ArcelorMittal Liberia shipped 3 million tonnes of iron ore between 1 January and 8 August 2013, almost doubling last year’s figures for the same period.
U.S. Service Center Shipments Reverse Declines in July
15 August 2013 - In July, the pattern of consistent monthly decline of U.S. steel and aluminum shipments reversed, with shipments increasing approximately 5% over last year, the Metals Service Center Institute (MSCI) reported. In Canada, July shipments of both steel and aluminum continued to decline but at rates that were much slower than June.
