21 March 2013 - The Specialty Steel Industry of North America (SSINA) has released statistical data on imports, U.S. consumption, and import penetration for the full year 2012.
World Crude Steel Production Rose 1.2% Year-on-Year in February
20 March 2013 - World crude steel production for the 63 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 123 million tonnes in February 2013, an increase of 1.2% compared to February 2012.
North American Service Center Shipments Fell in February
19 March 2013 - Steel shipments from U.S. service centers during the month of February declined almost 8% from a year ago while declines in U.S. service center aluminum shipments declined by just over 12%, the Metals Service Center Institute reported.
January 2013 U.S. Steel Mill Shipments at Highest Monthly Amount Since August 2012
18 March 2013 - The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that for the month of January 2013, U.S. steel mills shipped 8,210,726 tons, a 9.7% increase from the 7,483,120 tons shipped in the previous month, December 2012, and a 3.4% decrease from the 8,497,932 tons shipped in January 2012.
U.S. Steel Exports Increase in January But Remain Below 2012 Levels
12 March 2013 - Steel exports increased in January 2013 compared to December 2012 by 11.2% according to U.S. government data analyzed by the American Institute for International Steel.
U.S. Import Permits Down 5% in February
07 March 2013 - the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that steel import permit applications for the month of February total 2,558,000 tons. This was a 5% decrease from the 2,692,000 permit tons recorded in January and down 0.8% from the January preliminary imports total of 2,579,000 tons.

U.S. Preliminary Steel Imports Increase 5% in January
27 February 2013 - The American Iron and Steel Institute reported that the U.S. imported a total of 2,579,000 tons of steel in January, including 2,106,000 tons of finished steel (up 5% and 18%, respectively, vs. December final data).
USAMP and A/SP Receive US$6 Million Award for Advanced High-Strength Steel Project
25 February 2013 - The United States Automotive Materials Partnership LLC (USAMP), in collaboration with the Auto/Steel Partnership (A/SP), received a competitively solicited award for US$6 million from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for its “Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) Approach to Development of Lightweight, Third-Generation Advanced High-Strength Steels (3GAHSS)” project.
