USITC Upholds Import Duties on Certain Pipe and Tube After Five-Year Sunset Review

14 June 2012 - The U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) determined that revoking the existing countervailing duty order on certain circular welded pipe and tube from Turkey and the antidumping duty orders on these products from Brazil, India, Korea, Mexico, Taiwan, Thailand, and Turkey would be likely to lead to continuation or recurrence of material injury within a reasonably foreseeable time.

06 June 2012 - Based on the U.S. Commerce Department’s most recent Steel Import Monitoring and Analysis (SIMA) data, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that steel import permit applications for the month of May totaled 2,895,000 net tons (NT).

03 May 2012 - Total steel import permit applications reached 3,074,000 net tons for the month of April, a 5% decrease from the 3,248,000 permit tons recorded in March according to the latest report from AISI. Import tonnage for finished steel was up 11% over the same period.

19 April 2012 - Imports of total stainless steel in YTD January 2012 were 70,107 tons, a 4.7% increase compared to a year ago, according to recently released statistical data from the Specialty Steel Industry of North America (SSINA).

Finished Steel Imports up 13% in March

05 April 2012 - The U.S. imported a total of 3,144,000 net tons of steel in March, up 22% from February final data, according to the latest report from AISI. Finished steel imports were up 21% over the same period.

Preliminary Steel Imports Decline 5% in February

28 March 2012 - The U.S. imported a total of 2,689,000 net tons of steel in February, down 5% from January final data, according to the latest report from AISI. Finished steel imports were down 7% through the same period.

Stainless Imports up 18% Through YTD December 2011

15 March 2012 - Imports of total stainless steel in YTD December 2011 totaled 782,838 tons, an 18.1% increase compared to YTD December 2010, according to data from the Specialty Steel Industry of North America. Imports of total specialty steel increased 19.8% in YTD December 2011, to 1,008,750 tons, compared to the same period a year ago.

YTD Finished Steel Imports up 29% through February

08 March 2012 - Total steel import permit applications reached 2,549,000 net tons for February 2012, a 10% decrease from 2,826,000 permit tons recorded in January according to the most recent report from AISI. Through the first two months of 2012, finished steel imports were 4.1 million net tons, up 29% vs. the same period last year.

Finished Steel Imports Climb 31% in January

23 February 2012 - The U.S. imported a total of 2,546,000 net tons of steel in January, up 23% from December final data, according to the latest report from AISI. Finished steel imports were up 31% over the same period.

Stainless Imports up 22% Through YTD November 2011

20 February 2012 - Total stainless imports reached 728,648 tons through YTD November 2011, a 21.8% increase compared to YTD November 2010 according to the latest report from SSINA. Total specialty steel imports (comprising stainless steel, alloy tool steel and electrical steel) reached 937,322 tons through the same period, a 22.8% increase.

03 February 2012 - Total steel import permit applications reached 2,691,000 net tons for the month of January 2012, a 21% increase from the 2,230,000 permit tons recorded in December according to the most recent report from AISI.

25 January 2012 - The U.S. imported a total of 1,997,000 net tons of steel in December, down 6% vs. the November final data, according to the latest report from AISI. Finished steel imports were down 9% through the same period.

Stainless Imports up 24.9% Through YTD October 2011

16 January 2012 - Total stainless imports reached 664,583 tons through YTD October 2011 a 24.9% increase compared to YTD October 2010 according to the latest report from SSINA. Total specialty steel imports (comprising stainless steel, alloy tool steel and electrical steel) reached 850,948 tons through the same period, a 25.5% increase.

06 January 2012 - Steel import permit applications totaled 2,208,000 net tons for the month of December 2011, a 9% increase from the 2,027,000 permit tons recorded in November 2011 according to the latest report from AISI.
