New Vietnamese HSM Nears Nameplate Capacity
02/24/2021 - A new Vietnamese hot strip mill has reached a major production milestone, producing 1 million metric tons of hot-rolled coils just eight months after its start-up.
According to Danieli, which built the mill for Hoa Phat Group’s new Dung Quat flat-rolled complex in Vietnam, the cast-roll line is in the latter stages of commissioning and produced 200,000 metric tons of hot-rolled coils last month, 94% of its nominal monthly capacity. The line is expected to exceed that output this month.
“These figures confirm that Hoa Phat is on track to achieve its production target of 2.7 million metric tons per year in 2021 and with an upstream meltshop expansion planned for the end of this year, its full capacity will reach 3.5 million metric tons per year, setting a global benchmark in cast-roll technology,” Danieli said.
The mill utilizes Danieli’s Quality Strip Production technology. It consists of two vertically curved thin-slab caster strands, a 210-m tunnel furnace and a 6-stand hot-rolling mill, followed by a strip cooling system, downcoiler and coil handling areas.
It produces low- and medium-carbon high-strength-low-alloy steels in strip widths of 1,250 mm and 1,500 mm.
