New Steel Wire Plant Celebrates Grand Opening

Ceremony guests included Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb, state and local government officials, customers, shareholders, and employees.

The US$24 million joint venture launched by Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corp. in 2016 officially began production in April 2018. NSCI is capable of producing 36,000 tons a year of steel wire for cold heading and forging, a type of steel primarily used in automobile and automobile parts manufacturing. The facility includes a pickling and coating line, four wire-drawing machines and two heat treatment furnaces. The new mill aims to supply Japanese automobile and parts production plants located in North America.
