New Siemens Wire Rod Mill to Boost Capacity for Chinese Quality Steelmaker

Siemens VAI Metals Technologies will supply the Weiyuan Iron & Steel Company, Ltd with a new wire rod mill to expand annual production by 650,000 tons per year. The new mill of the carbon products manufacturer will be located in Lianjie Industrial Park in Weiyuan, Sichuan. Built in collaboration with CISDI Engineering Co., Ltd., the project is expected to start up in the spring of 2013.

The new mill for Weiyuan Iron & Steel will include a prefinishing mill, 8-stand No-Twist Mill, 4-stand Morgan Rod Reducing/Sizing Mill, and Morgan High Speed Pinch Roll and Laying Head designed and supplied by Siemens VAI. In addition, Siemens is designing Morgan Shears, Morgan Stelmor conveyor and reform area for the quality steelmaker. The mill will produce rods that are 5 mm to 25 mm in diameter. The new equipment is designed to reach speeds of 112 meters per second.
