According to U.S.-based Delta Steel Technologies Inc., the custom-engineered roller leveler replaced an older unit, allowing the heavy plate line to process thicker plate and higher strength steels. The previous unit had been rated for plate up to 0.75 inches. 
 
Delta Steel Technologies said commissioning proceeded smoothly, and the machine yielded immediate production improvements, due in part to ease of use. 

To that point, Nucor plate finishing supervisor Alex Farinelli recalled that one of the primary operators was on vacation at the time of training. 
 
“Despite this, he came in the next night and produced 1,200 tons, which is around 200 tons more than average. I should also mention that the plate coming off the machine is dead flat. That’s as big of a testament as I can give for any piece of equipment,” he said.  “It’s been a good purchase.”
