New Gas Cleaning Plant from Paul Wurth Commissioned at SAIL’s Durgapur Plant

In May 2012, the Paul Wurth Group had been awarded with the contract to modernize and modify, on a turnkey basis, the existing GCP within a challenging and very tight shutdown period of 60 days.

While Paul Wurth Umwelttechnik provided the basic engineering, the supply of key components and supervision support during the final commissioning of the plant, the scope of work of Paul Wurth India included detail engineering, supply of equipment items, dismantling of old GCP, erection, testing and commissioning of the new Gas Cleaning Plant along with the replacement of the clean gas network between BF No. 2 and BF No. 4.

In order to match the challenging project deadlines, already during the pre-shutdown phase, the clean gas ducts were replaced with new ducts by taking coordinated shutdowns of the various blast furnaces, thus avoiding any production losses. Engineering and civil works were also achieved during pre-shutdown.

After the shutdown took place on 13 February 2014 and clearance to start work was given on 15 February 2014, Paul Wurth realized the dismantling of the existing GCP within 8 days and completed the erection of new GCP as well as the cold tests by 14 April 2014.

In order to appreciate the timely and successful completion of the activities, SAIL-DSP issued the preliminary acceptance certificate to Paul Wurth, before blow-In.
