New Finishing Line Increases Capacity for High-Alloyed Tubes and Bar at Sandvik

“This is an extremely important, strategic investment to further strengthen Sandvik Materials Technology’s position as a supplier of high-alloyed tubes and bar,” explained Sandvik Materials Technology’s president Petra Einarsson.

The investment includes the addition of six new machines within the peeling and finishing area in Sandviken, Sweden.

Declaring the large investment a milestone for the company, Petra Einarsson, added, “It significantly speeds up our capability to produce more advanced, high-alloyed materials completely eliminating what was once a bottleneck in production for the important tube and bar flow. Peeling and finishing of such products is more critical, and hence more time consuming.

“Investment in the new plant makes it possible for us to increase capacity dramatically and provides us with the ability to switch our product mix towards more advanced products. This is completely in line with our strategic direction of growth, for example, in the oil and gas segment.”

The new machines also mean a significantly improved and safer working environment for employees. Throughout the project considerable focus was placed on safety and ergonomics, separating operators from machines and creating safety systems, such as light curtains that stop the machines immediately when a beam is broken. “Safety is a key area of focus for us where we continue to work intensively to create a safer working environment,” concluded Petra Einarsson.
