Megasteel Sdn Bhd (Lion's Group), Malaysia, recently started up their 160-tonne Danarc DC EAF.

The EAF, which features the latest Danieli Danarc DC technology and Module system, replaced an existing shaft furnace. The previous shaft furnace, which had been in operation for approximately four years, did not perform according to expectations.

A second Danieli Danarc DC EAF will be put into operation next year, replacing another shaft furnace.

Each 160-tonne furnace features a 7.3-meter shell diameter and is fitted with three Module units, level 2 automation and a HiReg system. When both new furnaces are in operation, Megasteel will nearly double its liquid steel production, to 194 tonnes per hour. The increased capacity will facilitate future capacity expansions for Megasteel’s downstream hot strip production facilities.
