New Coating Technology Put to Use in Offshore Well

The products, which include P110-grade casing and pipe nipples with TMK's UP PF ET premium connection, were ordered by LUKOIL-Nizhnevolzhskneft and were bound for the Y. Korchagin oil and gas condensate field in the Caspian Sea. TMK said this is the first time the coating technology is being used in an offshore well.

According to TMK, the GreenWell coating is an alternative to the standard lubricants used in threaded connections. TMK said the product's advantage is that it speeds up pipe-string assembly by reducing preparation time. It also minimizes environmental damage because it eliminates the ingress of lubricant into the water.

TMK introduced the GreenWell technology in 2013, and buyers have included Rosneft, Gazprom Neft, Bashneft, LUKOIL and NOVATEK.

The pipe casing in the latest order was made at TMK's Taganrog Metallurgical Works, and the pipe nipples were made at its Orsk Machine-Building Plant.
