New BOF on Order for Chilean Steel Mill
12/27/2016 - Chile’s Compania Siderurgica Huachipato S.A. has ordered a new basic oxygen furnace (LD converter) for its Talcahuano facility from Primetals Technologies.
According to Primetals, the new BOF is replacing a 40-year-old unit that has reached the end of its service life. With a tapping weight of 100 metric tons, the new BOF provides a larger reaction volume and will increase efficiency, Primetals said.
The converter vessel and trunnion ring will be suspended by Primetals Vaicon Link 2.0 system, and the tilting drive will be outfitted with new bearings. Primetals will oversee the engineering and installation and train mill employees. VAPOR Industrial S.A., a partner on the project, will build the new equipment.
The furnace is to be put into service in November 2017.
