MSCI: Service Centers Shipments Lower in January 2015
03/03/2015 - U.S. shipments of both steel and aluminum decreased from levels a year ago in January 2015, according to the latest report from the Metals Service Center Institute. Canadian results were similar.
U.S. Service Center Activity
In January 2015, U.S. service center steel shipments decreased by 3.4% from January 2014. Steel product inventories increased 16.4% from January a year ago.
In January, U.S. service center shipments of aluminum products decreased by 2.7% from the same month in 2014. Inventories of aluminum products increased 7.6% from January a year ago.
Canadian Service Center Activity
In January 2015, Canadian service center shipments of steel products decreased by 10.2% from January 2014. Steel product inventories increased 19.6% from January a year ago.
In January, Canadian service center aluminum shipments decreased 2.9% from the same month in 2014. Inventories of aluminum products increased 13.4% from January a year ago.
