Severstal Columbus, located in Columbus, Miss., has placed an order with MORE srl (Gemona Del Friuli -Italy) to supply a new pneumatic lime/dolo-lime injection system for its two 165-ton electric arc furnaces.
Severstal Columbus has one of the most advanced EAF facilities in the world. Completed in 2007, the plant utilizes technology that recycles steel into products suitable for the auto industry and other applications. The facility's annual capacity is 3.4 million tons of hot rolled steel, 1.5 million net tons of cold rolled steel and 1.1 million net tons of galvanized and galvannealed sheet annually.
MORE’s pneumatic lime/dolo-lime injection system will include four MOLI dispensers (each of 1760 gallons/8000 liters capacity) for pneumatic injection of lime and dolo-lime from the storage silos to the EAFs; two LIMEJET units for each EAF shell (one for lime and one for dolo-lime pneumatic injection); and oxygen and natural gas valve stands. The LIMEJET is a combined 5 MW burner/lime injector with innovative MSF-Mixed Swirl Flame technology for high efficiency scrap melting and lime injection.
MORE will also supply the innovative AUTOSLAG flux optimization software that automatically calculates the isothermal stability diagram for a particular slag composition, where the conditions for optimum slag foaming can be achieved. Based on the slag chemical analysis received automatically from the slag analyzer and the target of the slag basicity/FeO percent, AUTOSLAG calculates the quantity of fluxes that should be added to the current melting process in order to keep the slag within targets of basicity, FeO, MnO and MgO saturation, thereby optimizing the material consumption.
The project is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2013
