Charter Steel recently started up Moré SRL’s LimeJet, a pneumatic lime injection technology, in their 100-ton DC EAF.
The project comprised supply of one LimeJet, a combined burner/side-wall lime injector unit. The LimeJet system consists of a dedicated injector/burner to guarantee the optimal injection of the lime for foaming slag conditioning and metallurgical control to achieve overall process performance improvements.
Moré’s supply also included one Moli system, a dedicated dispenser for control of the injected lime and transportation air. The system has been included in the electrical/automation equipment and an intelligent Human Machine Interface in service for HiJet chemical energy package for overall EAF process management.
Operational results from start-up have proven the high efficiency of the lime injection technology, operating flexibility and cost reduction achievement.
Located in Saukville, Wis., Charter Steel is a leading supplier of carbon and alloy steel bar, rod and wire products. Charter’s meltshop is capable of producing 550,000 tons of billets annually.
