MMK Phases-in New HSS Grades for Automotive

MMK's Rolling Shop #5 produced and shipped in November a trial lot of cold rolled strip from 220 strength class rephosphorized steel to the Avtovaz car plant.

Rephosphorized steel is characterized by a phosphorus content of up to 0.12%, which, in combination with other elements, improves qualities such as tensile and yield strength and elongation as well as resistance to atmospheric corrosion and weldability, according to MMK.

Rolling Shop 5 can produce cold rolled strip from 220 strength rephosphorized steel 0.7 to 2.8 mm thick to Russian and European standards.

Samples of the material were also sent to Hyundai-Kia and the auto parts manufacturer DIPOS. MMK says that positive results were obtained during laboratory testing and trial stamping at the Korean carmaker's plant.
