MMFX Steel Names Bates to Senior-Level Product Manager Post

Kevin Bates, who brings nearly two decades of experience in product management and development with global companies engaged in heavy industry, has joined MMFX Steel Corporation of America as Product Manager. He will oversee development and execution of all product line marketing strategies for MMFX, which manufactures and markets corrosion-resistant, high-strength steels, including MMFX2-branded concrete reinforcing rebar.
Mr. Bates’ professional background includes a number of senior-level leadership positions in the mining, automotive, construction, and oil & gas industries. He arrives at MMFX following six years at Boart Longyear in Salt Lake City, where he served as Director of Engineering and Global Product Manager. The 120-year-old company is the world’s largest provider of contract exploration drilling services to the mining industry, as well as a technology leader in the design and manufacture of drilling rigs and tooling products.
Prior to that, the California native served as Global Product Manager for Los Angeles-based Barksdale Control Products, a $60 million division of Crane Co, focused on design and sales of highly engineered industrial products. During his five-year tenure there, he focused on developing strategic initiatives for instrumentation and control products used by heavy-duty truck companies as well as oil & gas original equipment manufacturers (OEM’s).
Mr. Bates started his career at General Motors Corporation in 1994. He held several engineering and manufacturing management positions at the company’s Anaheim facility, which produced automotive lead batteries for OEM’s and retail.
MMFX Technologies Corporation President Michael W. Pompay said, “Kevin has launched and guided a number of very successful industrial products during his career. That knowledge, coupled with the strong intellectual capital and resources we have assembled in other parts of the company, will accelerate our growth – now and well into the future.”
Mr. Bates holds an MBA from Pepperdine University as well as a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Irvine.

MMFX Technologies Corporation, headquartered in Irvine, California, is a material science company focused on commercializing its patented micro- and nanotechnologies that enable the manipulation of the microstructure of steel to derive optimum product properties. The current focus for MMFX’s core technology is MMFX2 concrete reinforcing steels, uncoated steel that has a microstructure fundamentally different from conventional steel providing superior strength and corrosion-resistance. The nanotechnology is protected by six U.S. patents and related filings in approximately 50 countries/regions.
An operating subsidiary of MMFX Technologies Corporation, MMFX Steel Corporation of America, also based in Irvine, California, markets and sells MMFX2 branded uncoated, corrosion-resistant and high-strength concrete reinforcing steel products throughout North America. Applications include bridges and highway systems, high-rise buildings and numerous commercial/industrial applications. Independent scientific tests have shown MMFX2 rebar to be five times more corrosion-resistant than and up to two times as strong as conventional steel.
