MMFX Steel Extends Market Reach to Chile
01/01/2013 - MMFX Steel Corporation has introduced its uncoated corrosion-resistant and high-strength reinforcing steel, MMFX2, into Chile, as its first entry into the South American markets.
MMFX Steel Corporation has introduced its uncoated corrosion-resistant and high-strength reinforcing steel, MMFX2, into Chile, as its first entry into the South American markets. MMFX is working with Broom Group S.A. to expand sales of its advanced MMFX2 reinforcing steel products into the region.
MMFX introduced its MMFX2 reinforcing steel in Chile at CORROMIN — a conference of industry leaders focused on solutions to address steel corrosion. Corrosion is a significant problem in Chile, given the country’s expansive coastal marine environment. Additionally, the Chilean mining industry, which is the second-largest industry in Chile, is actively searching for technologies like MMFX2 reinforcing steel to help resolve the industry’s unique corrosion challenges.
“Chile’s corrosion issues make it a prime market for MMFX’s uncoated corrosion-resistant reinforcing steel and an excellent first step for expansion of our product sales in South America,” said Michael Pompay, President of MMFX. “The Broom Group leverages its long-standing and extensive network to introduce new lines of business within the countries in which it operates. The Broom Group is an excellent partner for the expansion of MMFX2 reinforcing steel into South America.”
Geographical regions and applications with corrosive environments are key markets for MMFX2 reinforcing steel, because MMFX2 provides five times more corrosion-resistance than conventional reinforcing steel. Due to its superior resistance to corrosion, MMFX2 has been independently proven to provide more than 100 years of service life for reinforced concrete structures.
MMFX2 also offers high strength with ductility. At twice the strength of conventional reinforcing steel, structures can be engineered more efficiently to use less steel and less labor, and to resolve constructability issues. These product advantages result in the lowest life cycle cost for the project owner and the possibility for efficient construction with lower up-front costs.
MMFX2 reinforcing steel is sold throughout North America and the Middle East. The Broom Group will represent MMFX in Chile, supporting the expansion of the product into South America. Established in 1920, Broom Group is a shipping and logistics company based in Chile with significant operations throughout South America.
MMFX Steel Corporation is an operating subsidiary of MMFX Technologies Corporation and is based in Irvine, Calif. MMFX Steel markets and sells MMFX2 branded concrete reinforcing steel derived from its parent company’s micro and nanotechnologies throughout North America. Independent scientific tests have shown MMFX2 to be five times more corrosion-resistant than and up to two times as strong as conventional steel. MMFX2 is sold under the specifications ASTM A1035 Grades 100 and 120. Applications include bridges and highway systems, high-rise buildings, sea walls and numerous commercial/industrial applications.
