MMFX Steel Corporation of America has hired Recto (Jon) Colinares to serve as Technical Sales Manager. Mr. Colinares, whose professional experience includes top engineering and sales leadership positions with American and Canadian-based firms, will provide engineering support as well as direct sales of MMFX2 corrosion-resistant and high-strength concrete reinforcing steel products.
Since 2009 Mr. Colinares has served as Technical Sales Manager for Dextra America, Inc., manufacturer and distributor of engineered construction products for the building and civil industries. There, he maintained management responsibility for all U.S. and Canadian markets, working with divisions specializing in concrete reinforcing steels, formworks, cast-in-place concrete, structural steel for buildings, and foundations.
Prior to that he held the post of Managing Partner for Vancouver, B.C.-based Janaco Concrete Formworks, following three years at Doka Canada/USA, where he began as Project Manager and was later promoted to Project Engineer.
Mr. Colinares, a registered Professional Engineer, holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the University of Applied Sciences Esslingen, based in Esslingen, Germany. He earned his B.S. in Civil Engineering at the University of Waterloo.
Much of Mr. Colinares’ work will focus on new market development and approvals from regulatory and trade industry groups – a key strategic initiative for MMFX. The company, whose branded MMFX2 uncoated concrete reinforcing rebar has been approved in more than half of the continental U.S. states and much of Canada, sees significant market potential in the North America region.
“Jon will help us leverage the abundance of objective, third-party research that validates the corrosion-resistance, strength, and life-cycle cost advantages of our steel,” said Michael W. Pompay, President of MMFX Technologies, the material science parent company of MMFX Steel. “We have made major strides in terms of securing technical approvals and specifications from industry trade associations and obtaining acceptance in key markets, which gives us a very credible and powerful springboard from which to grow.”
MMFX Technologies Corporation, headquartered in Irvine, Calif., is a material science company focused on commercializing its patented micro- and nanotechnologies that enable the manipulation of the microstructure of steel to derive optimum product properties. The current focus for MMFX’s core technology is MMFX2 concrete reinforcing steels, uncoated steel that has a microstructure fundamentally different from conventional steel, providing superior strength and corrosion-resistance. The nanotechnology is protected by six U.S. patents and related filings in approximately 50 countries/regions.
An operating subsidiary of MMFX Technologies Corporation, MMFX Steel Corporation of America, also based in Irvine, Calif., markets and sells MMFX2 branded uncoated, corrosion-resistant and high-strength concrete reinforcing steel products throughout North America. Applications include bridges and highway systems, high-rise buildings and numerous commercial/industrial applications. Independent scientific tests have shown MMFX2 rebar to be five times more corrosion-resistant than and up to two times as strong as conventional steel.
