Mittal Steel Co. NV has been included for the first time in Fortune Magazine's Global 500 list, the ranking of the world's largest corporations.

Mittal Steel was ranked the world's 253rd largest company in terms of revenues (US$22.2 billion) and 55th in terms of profits (US$4.7 billion).

In its sector, Mittal Steel ranked number 1 for profits, with a profit margin of 21%. The company was also ranked number 1 globally for the biggest increases in revenues, the biggest increases in profits and the highest returns on assets.

Mittal Steel Co. is the world's largest and most global steel company. The company has operations in fourteen countries, on four continents. Mittal Steel encompasses all aspects of modern steelmaking, to produce a comprehensive portfolio of both flat and long steel products to meet a wide range of customer needs. It serves all the major steel consuming sectors, including automotive, appliance, machinery and construction. For 2004, Mittal Steel had revenues of US$22.2 billion and steel shipments of 42.1 million tons.
