Mintal Group Places Order for New Ferrochrome Plant
01/08/2016 - China Minmetal Corp.’s Mintal Group joint venture has ordered a new ferrochrome plant capable of producing 300,000 metric tons annually, according to the vendor on the project.
According to the vendor, Finland’s Outotec, the EUR25 million plant is to come on-line later this year.
The contract includes the engineering and supply of a steel belt sintering plant with an annual capacity of 700,000 metric tons of sintered pellets and two 75 MVA smelting furnaces with pre-heating technology. The plant wil lbe built in Baotou, northern China.
The plant will be the second Outotec has built for Mintal and the third it has set up in China. Outotec said its relationship with Mintal dates to 2011, when it delivered its first ferrochrome plant to the joint venture.
"Mintal's strategy is to become one of the largest ferroalloy producers and a significant stainless steel producer in China,” said Robin Lindahl, president of Outotec’s metals, energy and water business unit.
“The need for sustainable and energy efficient technologies is ever more important to the Chinese industry and Outotec's technological leadership is answering this call.”
