Mill Steel Co. Reflects on Exciting 2014

In December, the company not only celebrated its 55th year in business, but president and CEO, David Samrick, was recognized as 'Service Center Executive of the Year' by Metal Center News, an industry-leading steel trade publication.

This award comes on the heels of a big year for Mill Steel. In April of 2014, the company expanded its operations to the Port of Indiana—Jeffersonville. The new location houses state-of-the-art equipment—including a cut-to-length line, which enhances the company's service capabilities. Upon the March 2015 completion of the 120,000-square-foot renovation, the building will impose 225,000-square-feet — Mill Steel's largest facility to date.

Rich Cooper, CEO for the Ports of Indiana, reflects: "We were honored to have Mill Steel develop a facility at our Jeffersonville port and we look forward to doing our part to help it grow in the future."

Mill Steel soon sought another growth opportunity and in November acquired the assets of Steel Structural Systems, a leading steel framing components manufacturer, located in nearby Louisville, Ky. Now operating as Steel Structural Products LLC, the company will continue its growth in the construction products arena. "Mill Steel has begun to look at acquisitions beyond its service center operations to other flat-rolled steel manufacturing businesses, which do not compete with its core stamping and roll-forming customers," said Eric Lambert, senior vice president, CFO and COO, Mill Steel.

Amid the growth experienced this past year and his national honor, Samrick is quick to give credit: "This recognition is truly a result of the wonderful people working day in and day out to propel our company forward. Our associates, suppliers, and stakeholders all play a pivotal part in Mill Steel's, and my personal success."

Cooper continued: "David Samrick understands the steel service sector as well as anyone in the country and takes extraordinary pride developing top talent within the organization to keep his company performing at a high level in meeting and exceeding customer expectations. You don't have to be around him very long to understand why Metal Center News singled him out as the steel industry's 'Service Center Executive of the Year'."
